When I first picked up the Magson Case for the Insta360 Ace, I wasn’t sure I even needed it. The camera is small and solid on its own, but this case promised something the stock design lacks—a cold-shoe mount. That single feature is what sold me, because I wanted to attach my wireless mic receiver directly to the camera instead of juggling extra brackets or rigs.
Fit and Features
The Magson Case is made to fit both the Insta360 Ace and the Ace Pro. The camera slides snugly into place, and the top latch keeps everything secure. The case doesn’t add much protection to the lens, but it does extend slightly around the screen to help prevent scratches.
You still have access to the USB-C port and memory card slot, plus the power button and shutter controls. The cold-shoe mount on top feels solid and works perfectly for microphones or small lights.
The Big Drawback
Here’s the catch: once the camera is in the case, you lose access to the battery door. That means every time you need to swap batteries, you’ll have to remove the camera from the case entirely—and if you’re using the quick-mount system, you’ll have to take it off that first.
For creators who swap batteries frequently during shoots, this design makes quick changes frustrating. Yes, you can still charge the camera through the USB-C port, but for on-the-go filming, that’s not always practical.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the Magson Case does exactly what it claims—adds a cold-shoe mount and a more solid feel to your setup. If you mostly film short clips or don’t mind charging between takes, it could be perfect. But if you’re constantly swapping batteries, that one design choice might make you think twice.
